Curfew-Wadah-No two men sharing a motorbike

Yesterday, CNS chief said Wadah was benind the unrest and violence. Today minister of interior said “no evidence.

Everyday, series search and seizure from curfewed areas. What a progress.

New rules said to be impose is no full face veil for women riding on a bike and no two men sharing a motorbike. After pondering that men on the passenger position can do illegal activities like throwing metal spikes or killing people. Women can do that to and they face should be captured on CCTV waiting to be arrested like two men in bangkok. Additionally they hope that men can no longer disguise in women’s full face veil and head scarf.

However, they should by better CCTV. Looking alike someone in the camera alone can land people to jail without other supporting evidences like the photo that they really held explosive devices in thier hands and place the bomb in the area.

These are magic concoction for the South?

To make the division between ethnic widen, they Sabayoi civilians will be trained and armed as requested.

The curfew and arrests are fast and seem to be effective but are they being conduct on a just and due process?

If not, the government still hve to deal with road block aftermath and due protests.

in Absence of law and order…

“Urgent news” greeted my afternoon browsing. Council of National Security says protesting should be banned in Bangkok. They proposed to reinforce “Emergency” rule because about 2000 people protested last week.

Once promoted as a sign of healthy democratic society, series of protest and potential of gathering to oust something that people cannot politically tolerate, is now a threat to “law and order.” Read the rest of this entry »

The making of “girl guns”

Note: It is “sequel” remark form my concept paper blog post in Thai at chutbloc.weblog.in.th. Blame it on my handy thesis buddy who gave me the book and I have to remember where the points are for her citation, the remark was written to the news posted at Thairath on 12 March 2007 about female volunteer rangers and weapon assigned to them, which also reminded me of my experience of “lightness.”
**********************

Thairath reports M16-A1 as “girl guns ” assigned to female ranger volunteers operating as female mob control in the four Southern provinces of Thailand. My Excellency Fred Lubang kindly explained to me it is “baby” M16. Baby M16? Baby. Baby M16 for commando? Now it is Baby M16 for Thai female rangers.

If some of you watch Mr. and Mrs. Smith, please think about Mrs. Smith asking her partner if she had to use that “girl guns” her hubby handed to her.

The report said

” ‘[K]nowing that we are safe, I hug my M16-A1 to sleep every night.’ We are accustomed to M 16 and now we just learned that M16-A 1 [sic.] is a personal assault rifle suitable for women. The handle is not to small or too long. The stock is retractable the barrel short and it is light. The firing power is not compromised and it is very precise.”

amnesty for the extra-constitution action

An amnesty or a pardon mean they did something wrong.

It is wrong now. It was wrong when they did it.

Now they just want to cover their arses.

Will the Constitution Drafting Committee do the cover job?

Today I finally caught Thairath (favorite casuaties counts resource) reporting two policemen (or in a gender neutral term male “police officers”) were shot dead in Yala and they personal or assigned firearms .38 were taken.
firearms taken

The two police were severely injured and later died on the way to the hospital. More graphic account of how they had been shot can be found in original.

The elements that I am interested are

  • They are on duty officer;
  • Their firearms taken; and
  • Where and how will tese two pistols among others stolen or taken from injured or killed victims end up. Will the security force know which one is which?

Routes: Existing Structures for Weapons Smuggling

    route-copy.jpg

The following pictures were made from my memories about weapons smuggling in the southern part of
Thailand during 2000-2003. I am looking for more back up evidence. Now when Aceh does not need weapons anymore, the excess weapons could find new targets. Additonally if weapons can go from
Thailand to Aceh, there is not reason that they can be transfered back. Read the rest of this entry »
